The more appliances you’d like to run at the same time can be a good indication of your service needed. For example a 60 amp service will not provide enough service to run an electric stove, hair dryer and electrical hot water heater. The rule of thumb for our many digital devices that need to be on charge and appliances running in the background we’d suggest 200 amps. Today most residential homes are fitted with 200 amps, and inturn most residential areas you only pay for what you use and more the service size. In the future you might want to up your service but there isn't any extra capacity on the transformer. Updating and replacing the feeder cables, meter and panels can be an expensive exercise, rather invest the first time around. Later on you might want to add a hot tub, pool or outside entertainment light and you would need the larger service.
